I noticed also, that thunderbird is not really working over SSL either
-- only the first IMAPS connection succeeds. The subsequent ones claim a
timeout, while the server logs a message stating, that a client
"disconnected without attempting authentication".

Using linux-firefox works from the same desktop, so it is not about
network setup :-(

Something is wrong with nss, I fear...
